Ember

Ember Reliquary is a concept: a private, portable information system presented as a physical object, with a computer, power equipment, cables and printed material fitted into a case. The study is about turning an abstract idea into something you can picture. The kit is a concept, and the inquiry and ordering controls are disconnected.
The case
The fitted case sits at the center of the page on a dark background that makes its edges and compartments stand out, with small labels naming the parts. The page keeps coming back to it, closed and then open, each time with a different piece of the idea beside it.
A comparison section shows several proposed sizes, from a compact single-computer arrangement to larger cases with more equipment, all from the same viewpoint and with the same treatment so the differences read at a glance.

Where it would be used
Between the product views are concept images of people going over plans, maps and printed material at home and outdoors, with ordinary things like a table, a notebook and a lamp around the computer. Next to them are short examples of what the system would hold, such as equipment manuals, property notes and procedures. The scenes give a fairly dense idea a human scale before the page explains the system as a whole.
I developed Ember Reliquary as a website design demonstration.
